Latest Newsletter

Welcome to our first Newsletter.  First of all, I would like to thank you for subscribing to our newsletter and for your interest in our dance school. The Dance School evolved from the exceptional beginnings of McDonald Dance Academy, founded by the legend George McDonald, who was—and continues to be—an influential figure in the world of Ballroom dancing. George created a professional dance school of an exceptional standard, with a reputation that was known, and is still recognised, throughout the UK. The school was eventually passed on to his daughter, Maureen, who continued to encourage dancers aged from 4 to 80 to develop their ability, training, and careers in dance. Having danced from the age of five under the tuition of my mother and my aunts (all of whom were dance teachers), I became a student at McDonald Dance Academy in 2014. Under Maureen’s guidance, I progressed from student to student teacher, instructing and choreographing classes until I completed the Allied Dancing Associate qualification in Ballroom Dancing and began my vocation as a dance teacher.   Maureen continues to be my tutor and mentor. I never thought I would realise my dream of owning my own dance school, and I am honoured to say that both George and Maureen continue to support The Dance School.
Official Grand Opening day
What a fabulous day for our Grand Opening! The sun shone, and we were joined by members of the local community, friends, family, and students who came along to celebrate the opening of our dance school with us.
Star Struck !!!
I was fortunate enough to spend a day with the Queen of Ballroom, Erin Boag, who visited The Palace Dance Studio in Wigan for a wonderful day of workshops and dance. Erin taught technique, style, and fabulous routines in the Waltz, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, and Tango. She was absolutely amazing!   I was eager to learn a few teaching tips from Erin, and I wasn’t disappointed. I’ve brought back to the studio some fabulous routines to share with our students—not to mention a fantastic photo of me with the Queen of Ballroom herself!
Allied Dancing Association Childrens’ Medalist Competition March 2025
We were incredibly proud of the children’s achievements at the Medallist competition. Medals and trophies were presented to the children by former president of the Allied Dancing Association, John Murphy.   Parents, grandparents, and friends came along to support the children—some even took part and won a medal of their own in the Parent and Child competition! Although it was a long and tiring day, the children were thrilled with their success.
Let’s Dance
We were proud to support the Let’s Dance campaign, inspired by the fabulous Angela Rippon. The children of The Dance School were joined by their parents, friends, grandparents, and members of the Burscough community. Together, they danced in celebration of dance and its benefits for health and well-being.
